Los Angeles Union Station
Union Station is a gorgeous building steeped in history and often forgotten. I loved going down there last week and discovering it. Its been 6 years since I moved to LA and I'd strongly recommend stopping buy on a lazy afternoon. I shot these to Nirvana on my 5d. Enjoy!
Marcella in Slate Swim
I had the time of my life shooting Marcella in these amazing suits from Slate Swim
Bandit Brand Teaser
Here is a brief teaser of a shoot I did with the incredibly talented Kaila Stone in the outskirts of Phoenix. These photos are still rough and need a beauty pass but I felt like sharing a peek into what I've been doing this week. The shirts are made by the talented folx at Bandit Brand and the jewelry is from my good friend Susan at The Blue Sage Gallery. Enjoy!
Observation
I christened the new year by purchasing a 5D and a new lens. Hours later I was up in Griffith Park falling in love with the 24-70mm lens. Here are the results. Enjoy!
Made Solid
While brunching one Sunday with my lovely lady we strolled into Made Solid and intently fell in love. Their expertly crafted products are diverse and creative. They offer beautiful hand made drop trays, bags, and bracelets as well as a collection of carefully selected other brands, like Fortune. If you're ever in Los Feliz this place is a must visit (as is Square One Dining across the street)
Jam Serves
Shot predominantly on the Racquetball Courts at UCSC, Jessica serves up the heat in an adorable body suit from Nasty Gal. This fun, flirty shoot was an absolute blast and I finally got to work with the talented makeup artist Erin Kock.
On the camera side, I experimented with mixing color temperatures and am thrilled with the way the images turned out!
Jewelry Product Photography
These pieces were shot in the redwoods surrounding Santa Cruz for my friend’s Etsy account. I love the translucency of the different gem-stones. All pieces are for sale, if you’re interested in purchasing one contact me and I can connect you with their owner.
Archival Restoration
I recently had the pleasure of restoring these prints of Santa Cruz surfers from the 1940’s and 50’s for a client. If you have photo-prints that could use some restoring, shoot me an email at JohnFurth@gmail.com and we can discuss rates.
The Venice I Love
I returned to Venice after graduating from UCSC to walk the streets I used to call home. Here I focus my camera on locations I have forged connections with (familiar walkways and the bar where I took my last drink) hoping to frame this new duality these spaces hold for me.
To me this short series highlights the byproduct of gentrification and the alienation I now feel in my old neighborhood.
Mad Mogul Spring/Summer 2016 Lookbook
This winter I had the pleasure of shooting this lookbook for Mad Mogul. This start up street fashion brand is based and out Santa Cruz CA and was founded by my good friend Neev Pettel @NeevPettel. More photos from our photo shoot in DTLA are available at MadMogulClothing.com and instagram @MadMogulClothing
Models: Ross Forte, Shaka Smith, Miranda Davinroy, and Neev Pettel
Photoshop Portfolio
Here is a short example of my photoshop skills set to "Give Me Something Good" by the very talented Ryan Adams. For a complete portfolio please go to my 'Portfolio' tab or reach out to me via email at JohnFurth@gmail.com
Beach Side with Emma
Earlier this month I had the pleasure of shooting Emma (@etemaat) down by the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. This two day shoot was a total blast as we went from bumper cars to blooming Aloe Vera. She's wearing a glorious dress from For Love and Lemon's 2016 spring collection, and a jean jacket by Guess.
Take the Beach
Last week during a break in El Nino I went for a sunset walk with my camera. The recent swells brought copious amounts of sand into the mouth of the Santa Cruz Harbor which makes some beautiful waves. Enjoy the results.
Upper Crust: Behind the Counter
I shot this short observational documentary on the new Sony FS5 at Upper Crust Pizza in Santa Cruz CA. Overall, I am happy with the quality of the footage and the handling of the camera, especially when having to adjust exposure while following a subject throughout different environments.
In this short, I follow the surprisingly satisfying life-cycle of a dough ball. Enjoy!
Elaine in the Afternoon
I had the pleasure of shooting this multi-look series with Elaine featuring pieces from Planet Blue and For Love and Lemons
Around Venice with Rina
A little over a year ago I had the pleasure of shooting Rina ( @RinaMochiEye ) in Venice Beach before moving to Santa Cruz. Life got a little crazy after the move, what with starting a new school and trying to find the best espresso shot in town, so without further delay, here are the final shots
